We’re thrilled to be working with FLUX Rotherham to commission a new digital artwork to be shown as part of the main visitor route here at Wentworth Woodhouse.
The artwork will build on the legacy of our 2024 exhibition, Beneath the Surface: George Stubbs and Contemporary Artists, which marked the 300th anniversary of artist George Stubbs’ birth. It positioned Stubbs as an artist in residence at Wentworth Woodhouse, as he spent “some time” here in 1762. Whilst here, he painted the famous Whistlejacket. The exhibition brought together works by George Stubbs with contemporary animal and equine works, juxtaposing old and new.
As we develop the signage and storytelling in the State Rooms, we would like to continue to tell the story of George Stubbs and Whistlejacket, alongside other stories that celebrate our history.
We’re looking for imaginative, thoughtful proposals which use digital approaches to immerse visitors in Wentworth Woodhouse’s stories, including that of George Stubbs’ residency. We want visitors to connect to the past, and be proud of Rotherham’s past.
