The North Pavilion at Wentworth Woodhouse features two wonderful clocks and a set of bells. For decades, none of this has functioned, but the commencement of roof works on the Pavilion inspired local horologist, Andrew Bates to offer his services to restore them.
Andrew, from Bygone Times at the Elsecar Heritage Centre, spent many months researching the history of the clocks, which actually pre-date the building of the Pavilion. In this video, we take a look at how he restored the workings of the clock mechanisms and the chimes. Andrew gave his time and expertise completely free of charge, and we are deeply grateful to him for this extraordinary generosity.
