Welcome back – our mansion re-opens from Saturday October 3rd.
The doors of Wentworth Woodhouse’s mansion are opening again. After closing in March when lockdown came into force, the Trust is now able to welcome visitors back in safety. The house will remain open every week from Wednesday to Sunday afternoon. There is so much to see and do, with a raft of COVID-19 precautions – including mandatory ADVANCE BOOKING – to keep you safe.
Come and view The Flock on our front lawns, a spectacular art installation of 10,000 little wooden birds, each hand-painted with memories of COVID-19 lockdown by members of the public.
Then step inside the mansion to enjoy a completely new visitor experience. Your advance admission tickets enable you to enter into the Pillared Hall in timed slots and then you are free to follow a one-way route through the house. Take in rooms on the ground floor and ascend the grand staircase to view some of the grand state rooms. Room stewards will be on-hand to answer questions and activity sheets have been created to give children a fun learning experience. The Tea Room and Gift Shop are also open from Wednesday to Sunday and our guided house tours are running again.
In addition, the chapel has been transformed into an exhibition space to showcase the work of up and coming local artists supported by the Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance project (ROAR), an Arts Council funded National Portfolio Organisation. Wentworth Woodhouse is a fitting venue for an art exhibition. For centuries the Fitzwilliams filled the house with artworks. The Trust is enabling people from all walks of life to engage with art and supports a number of local creative projects. Now four local artists have been given the chapel space to stage their first ever exhibition. The first artist ‘in the frame’ is Kevan Cadman, who became a full-time artist in 2018 after retiring as Head of School at Roughwood Primary.
All visitors are reassured they can visit the mansion in safety.
The Trust’s comprehensive Covid-19 policy is in line with latest government guidelines and includes temperature checks for visitors, volunteers and staff and phased entry via online booking.
Face coverings are compulsory indoors, a comprehensive cleaning policy has been increased, one-way routes have been created, social distancing will be observed at all times, hand sanitising stations and track and trace policies are operating.
The Trust’s QR code for the NHS Track & Trace app will be available.
Due to the daily fluctuations in government COVID-19 guidelines, supporters are asked to check on Wentworth Woodhouse’s website and social media and our website for updates on openings and ticket sales
