  • FAQs

Is Wentworth Woodhouse open all year round?

Our Mansion is currently closed to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, but local visitors are currently welcome to exercise in our gardens every Saturday and Sunday. All visitors gain ticketed admission to the gardens in timed slots to limit the number of people on-site and minimise queuing. Check for any planned closures under the ‘Visit Us’ page of our website.

Is photography allowed inside Wentworth Woodhouse?

Yes, we allow internal and external photography for personal use. Please get in touch on 01226 351161 if you are interested in photographing the house for commercial use, as permission must be sought.

Is Wentworth Woodhouse a National Trust or English Heritage property?

No, we are owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. We receive support and funding from the National Trust and in return we can offer National Trust members (England and Wales) a 50% discount on specified tours.

Is Wentworth Woodhouse accessible to wheelchair and mobility scooter users?

Blue Badge parking can be found at the front of the house. Please follow the signs. We have ramp access to the ground floor of the house only. The tearoom is on the ground floor and has an accessible toilet with level access. Assistance dogs are welcome in the house and garden. Our house tours do visit upper floors. We are working with our partners to look at ways to bring greater accessibility to the house, but this will take some time. Our masterplan details how we plan to make the house more accessible, including installing lifts to the upper floors.

    Is there parking on-site?

Yes, we have free parking on-site which is signposted and is approximately 300 yards from the house.

Is there a café / restaurant on site?

Tea room and gift shop have been closed since November 5th, in line with government COVID-19 restrictions announced on October 31. Refreshments will be available from our mobile catering units close to the main entrance to the mansion and another in our gardens, selling cakes, hot pasties and sausage rolls, teas, and coffee.

May we picnic in the grounds?

Ticket holders heading to the Open Gardens are very welcome to bring picnics.

May I have my wedding at Wentworth Woodhouse?

Yes, we are a popular wedding venue. Please click here for more information.

Are dogs allowed at Wentworth Woodhouse?

Yes, dogs are very welcome in the gardens and in the specially dedicated area of our tearoom in the house.
Assistance dogs only are allowed throughout the public areas of the house. Dogs can be walked in our gardens as long as they are kept on leads at all times. Please be aware there are cattle and deer in the neighbouring fields.
Please remember that although the Trust owns the gardens at the rear of the house and the lawn at the front, the surrounding land is owned by the Fitzwilliam Wentworth Amenity Trust.
Before you go walking with your dog, which must be kept on a lead, please visit their website to identify the public footpaths.
