It was from our Yellow Bedroom that Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, learnt his fate. He was to be executed at the reluctant command of the ill-fated Charles I. Thomas was executed in May 1641, leading up to the Civil Wars – a turbulent time in British history.
Join the Sealed Knot as they re-enact the battles, skirmishes and sieges of the English Civil Wars at Wentworth Woodhouse. See history come alive as they fire muskets, don costumes and fight the good fight!
It will be a bank holiday to remember with children’s drills, living history displays and cannon fire. Alongside the battles and tactics, learn about the cookery, clothes, education and politics of the 17th century.
We will also be running special Civil War themed tours of the house across the weekend (extra ticket required).
